Thai Meat Balls

Thai food in the street. Looks rather more exciting than a hot dog stall.

  • 1 lb/450 gms minced pork
  • 1 lb/450 gms minced beef
  • 6 cloves of garlic, smashed and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (!)
  • Gluten free flour if necessary – eg rice flour, corn flour, garam flour.
  • 10 ground peppercorns
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • Salt or fish sauce to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • Oil – olive or clarified butter.

Serves 8.

  1. Pound the garlic and peppercorns to a paste.  I cannot handle garlic, so I would substitute grated ginger.
  2. Combine all the ingredients, mix well and form into meat balls.
  3. Thinly coat with the flour if needed.
  4. Fry them in a frying pan until cooked through.
  5. Serve with rice and extra coriander.
