bonematrixBone Matrix 2.0 is not just a calcium supplement – it is designed to provide complete bone nutrition. I sell Poliquin Bone Matrix for £40.50, plus postage, for 180 tablets.  You take 3 – 6 tablets a day.

This bone support supplement contains the nimbly named microcrystalline hydroxyapatite.  This stuff is also called, equally nattily, ossein hydroxyapatite, MCHC, or calcium hydroxyapatite. The strong bottom line is that it’s much better than calcium carbonate at restoring strength to weedy bones. Go to Google Scholar, type in ossein-hydroxyapatite since 2012 and you’ll find loads of research backing this statement up.  If you type in microcrystalline hydroxyapatite you’ll find positive research going back to the 1980s.

MCHC is more than just a source of calcium.  It is actually a whole bone extract that contains the nutrients that make up bone, such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorous along with vital growth factors and types I and II collagen.  The cheaper calcium carbonate is associated with causing calcification, which increases risk of heart attacks, so not only is it less effective it is also questionably dangerous.

Bone Matrix also contains other ingredients to support bone health such as Vitamin D3, glucosamine and a vitamin C complex.1 The footnote shows the ingredients in detail.

Bone Matrix is good for thin people or anybody at risk of osteopenia.  It would be sensible to take a high quality vitamin D supplement too – the Poliquin brand is extremely good.  I realise that, since I sell it, I would say that!  But I have tried others and they aren’t a patch on the Poliquin brand, and can cost more.

The bottom of a squat. Don't worry about the weight - anyway, those here may be cardboard... Actually, adding a stick across the shoulders makes the squat much harder.
The bottom of a squat. Don’t worry about the weight – anyway, those here may be cardboard… Actually, adding a stick across the shoulders makes the squat much harder – helps keep the chest up.

And, of course, we need to be strong.  When strengthening the body, it is the lowering phase that pulls on the bones and makes them stronger, so when doing some squats make sure you go all the way down nice and slowly.  And by all the way down, I really do mean bottom almost on the floor; for all but the ridiculously flexible, it helps to elevate the heels. If doing pulling exercises, lower the weight slowly, feeling the back muscles control that weight and not the arms.

If you look at the footnote, you’ll see loads of high quality ingredients that make up Bone Matrix.  This is not to make the ingredients list look either impressive or confusing.  This is to improve the uptake and performance of the supplement.  So if worried about your bones, give Bone Matrix 2 a whirl and you should be able to cope with life’s knocks with more aplomb.

  1. Hi Claire I have been trying to up my magnesium for the past few months and have stopped taking calcium supplements from my GP as I read an interesting article on reversing osteoporosis which says we all have too much calcium in this country with cows dairy etc. thus why so many folks have problems with their bones.

If the ration of Magnesium is higher it will pull the calcium deposits from the body and put them in the bones.
I wanted to try the Bone Matrix but also wonder if I should take the Ubermag as well??
    Many thanks. Gina.

    1. Hi Gina, I would take both Ubermag and Bone Matrix – indeed, I do take both. Have you had your bone density tested? If you have and can have it retested a couple of times, it is worth trying Bone Matrix with and without Ubermag. However, Ubermag does so many other good things apart from help bone density and we are all short of Magnesium.

      1. Oh, and it’s also worth checking your pH – you should be able to find pH sticks on line easily enough. As the packet will make clear, you need to be slightly alkaline. Magnesium helps this, and bones get leached when we are acidic.

        1. Hi Claire, thank you so much for your advice. I do have bone density checks every three years as I have been a Coeliac for 25 years and have osteopenia in my hip and spine. I go to the gym 3 times a week, do weight bearing exercises, Yoga and Pilates trying to improve my bones. I will do the PH test and try both the Bone Matrix and Ubermag. Gina.
